Beginners & Improvers Dressmaking - 6 week course - Starting Monday 22nd April 2024 (Afternoon)

If you have never made a garment before or have made garments but want to take your dressmaking to the next level, this is a great course for you!  

With a large classroom and max. 8 participants, our tutor Carol will work with you on your pattern to create a garment that you will wear and enjoy. 

If you are a beginner at dressmaking we suggest that you bring a simple dress pattern such as one from the following pages:

Alternatively, if you have covered the basics but want to stretch your ability, pick a more challenging pattern to bring along that takes you out of your comfort zone but do remember this is only a 6 week course. Please note that we do not cover working on overlockers in this more generalised session.

You can bring your own fabric or choose in-store (if your pattern is suitable with mid-weight cotton) and either bring your sewing machine or book to use one of ours.

Our tutor, Carol will give you an intro. into dressmaking, explaining processes as you go, from how to cut your fabric and get started, to seams, zips, and hems!  She will then work with you to bring your pattern to life showing you tips and tricks to make up your dress and making any minor alterations along the way.

Carol is an experienced sewer who has been dressmaking since she was 10 and with over 35 years of working as a teacher in various schools. She will help you to gain the confidence to venture into your next level of dressmaking on your own!

This class will have no more than 8 participants and will need at least 4 participants to run.
